ADHD Storytelling

Hey friends,

I recently discovered I've been having conversations "wrong" my entire life.

When someone tells you an interesting story, does your brain automatically find its own related story to share? For many with ADHD, this can be an attempt to show empathy. You want them to know you can relate to how they feel, so you share a similar story with your own experience.

Did you know that some people find this rude? I had no idea.

I think things like this are why many with ADHD end up finding each other and becoming friends.

Often when an adult discovers they have ADHD, it sets off a chain reaction in their group of friends. Turns out they all have ADHD! Because of the differences in how you experience empathy, conversation, etc; you're attracted to each other.

On top of that, we run into each other at popular "ADHD gathering places", where our creativity and/or competitive spirit can really shine.

In other words: ain't no party like an ADHD party. πŸ₯³

Stay focused,

Don't forget...

Okay, this time it's real. U.S. Taxes are due in less than a week. If you've been procrastinating, now's the time to get on it!

πŸ“†πŸ“ Tactical Time Blocker (daily planner template). I made a thing! This printable template is a great way to plan your day. It's based on having a daily highlight + adaptive time-blocking so you can plan your schedule but adapt as plans change (or your time estimates turn out to be less than accurate).

βΈπŸ’¬ Pause Before You Say Yes. Our impulsivity can make us overcommit, sometimes before we even know what we've committed to. Sometimes we resort to lying just to get out of the commitment. Nikki Kinzer says we need to pause before agreeing, and find time to reflect so can make more informed decisions.

Quote of the week

You are not weird. You are not stupid. You do not need to try harder. You are not a failed version of normal. You are different, you are beautiful, and you are not alone.
